The skin is the immune barrier of the body; it is the chiefly affected tissue. In ayurveda, skin disease is called as kushta. There are a variety of kushta’s mentioned in ayurvedic classics. Among them Vicharchika- Eczema comes under kshudra kusta ( non prominent skin disease).
Kusta- skin diseases has been explained in a detailed manner along with its management in Agni purana and Garuda purana. (epics of india). Vicharchika is identified as an independent disease in Garuda purana.
Vicharchika - eczema is defined as variety of kusta causing a peculiar dermatological manifestation.
Eczema is a non-contageous inflammatory disease if the skin responses to endogenous or exogenous stimuli characterized by erythema, edema, and vascularization, oozing and crusting.
Along with eczema we provide special treatment for psoriasis, vitiligo (early stages) acne vulgaris, Acanthosis nigricans, lichen planus and skin discoloration rosacea, ichthyosis, hives and seborrheic dermatitis.
Chikitsa –treatment aims not only at the radical removal of the causative factors of the disease, but at the restoration of the doshic equilibrium. Panchakarmas are highly beneficial especially virechana and rakta mokshana. Internal herbal medications should be administered (including blood purifiers) along with panchakarma therapies and proper satwik diet must be followed. Avoiding alcohol and nonvegetarian food is highly beneficial. Usually herbs such as neem,manjesta,chandana, bhallataka, gugglu,Triphala,patola, kadu Rohini, guduchi, Rakta chandana, brhmi, etc are used.
